Lafayette Square Institute
Making markets work for working-class America.
Lafayette Square Institute develops bipartisan policy and AI-enabled tools that unlock private investment in working-class people and working-class places.
Our mission
Economic mobility is the foundation of the American Dream.
Economic mobility is what lets working-class families build wealth, weather setbacks, and plan for the next generation. It depends on working markets: affordable housing, meaningful work, and pathways to ownership in the places where working-class Americans live and work.
Lafayette Square Institute designs bipartisan policy frameworks to shape those markets, builds AI-enabled data products that show where capital and benefits are not reaching working-class communities, and convenes community leaders, investors, workers, business owners, and lawmakers across the political spectrum to advance the tools that expand access to opportunity.
How we work
Bridging Communities, Capital, and Capitol Hill.
Lafayette Square Institute works across three pillars: policy to shift markets so they drive prosperity for working-class communities, technology to connect working-class communities to the capital and benefits they need, and coalitions to bring stakeholders together across geographies, ideologies, and sectors to advance proven tools at scale.
Policy
LSI's policy portfolios on housing, employee ownership, and job quality develop bipartisan, evidence-based policy that shifts markets to drive prosperity for working-class communities.

LSI builds AI-enabled data products that use place-based insights to connect working-class communities to capital and benefits, giving lawmakers, community organizations, and investors a shared foundation for action.
Explore the tools →Coalitions
LSI's coalitions connect stakeholders across geographies, ideologies, and sectors to advance proven tools that restore economic mobility. The National Renter Wealth Coalition and the State Employee Ownership Caucus bring working-class communities, Capitol Hill, and capital markets together on multi-year agendas.
